this little place in Guadalajara, Mexico is called...Los Ladrillos/Hornos.
they make bricks here for a "living"...very poor living conditions, the majority of the people have breathing problems because they dont have the right protection when making the bricks..they are open oven that they make themselves to put bricks in to "cook".... the village has no running water or electricity...

this was a very emotional time...i had never been to a place where they had no running water/electricity.... we handed out many little gifts to the kids in the village...clothes too!

2.5 DAYS TIL DEPARTURE...

not gonna lie, i'm really excited for this trip! i can't wait to get the care packages together when i'm in guadalajara. i've decided to buy the goods in mexico because it is a lot cheaper down there! i'm taking 77 Ty beanie babies down with me to put into the packages~ :) also, taking a big luggage full of baby/toddler clothes that was donated by Little Earth! I'll be handing out the clothes to under privledged mother's in guadalajara with the help of a priest!

anyways, time to get writing...i have 1 essay left to do before i leave!

last night's fundraiser was a success!!! everyone started showing up @ 9pm!!! it was nice..we had 145 people come out :) thanks to all the volunteers who helped out and businessses who donated prizes for the raffle!!

THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME.... OUR FIRST FUNDRAISER!

O.M.G! I can't believe it, it's August 2 2009! I'm having the first fundraiser for Little Drops of Love tonite!!! I am so excited and nervous! WOW!! I can't wait.

Everything is good to go, the prep for food is basically done.the raffle prizes are good. the dj is ready..and i'm ready to have a great night with the people that came out to support the cause.

time to sleep! it's gonna be a long day!

FUNDRAISER EVENT =)

So we are finally having out first event of the year :) It's going to be @ SPACE LOUNGE (1149 GRANVILLE) on AUGUST 2 from 630-1230!!

We will be serving Mexican appie's (approx. from 8pm-9pm)..it's included when you buy the ticket :)
gonnahave a dj spinning and a guitarist perform too!

The money that is raised will be used to buy underwear (2 pairs in each package), toothbrushes and toothpaste for the care packages. a portion of it is also going towards buying fabric for the sling bags that we are making (they will hold the care packages). my goal is to have 100 care packages by august 11 2009.

i will PERSONALLY be handing out the care packages to street kids in Guadalajara in August! ♥ .

the care packages will include:
-2 pairs of underwear
-educational flashcards (ABC's)
-a beanie babie
-soap
-toothbrush
-toothpaste

i have 1 large luggage ready for MEXICO! :) it's full of baby/toddler clothes that was donated by Little Earth http://www.littleearthvancouver.com/ . The plan is to talk to a priest in Guadalajara, Mexico to ask if he could help me hand out the clothes to under privledged mother's who have children that can use the clothing (their are some baby crocs too, soo cute!).

so with the help of 3 dedicated and fully motivated friends, I am planning to have a fundraiser on AUGUST 2 2009 @ SPACE LOUNGE ON GRANVILLE ST!!!! Gonna have a meeting tomorrow evening to plan everything out :)

We will have door prizes!horray! and hopefully some local musicians performing! I am SOOO EXCITED!!!! :)

about 4 weeks left

so there is about 4 weeks left until my trip to mexico...i'm really anxious and excited to visit a new country and to meet new children. the task for this trip is to hand out care packages to children that live on the street. my goal is to have 100 care packages for this trip, it's the first time i do this...so it is very exciting. so far i have 5!

there are lots of people that have joined my facebook group, but only a few have been moved to donating things that we need for the packages...what can i do to motivate these individuals in the cause? to make them realize that even a donation of a stuffed animal can make a difference to a childs life. many kids that are struck by harsh poverty do not even have any toys, they play with "toys" that they make with garbage that they find.

reminder of what we need:
-toothbrush
-toothpaste
-underwear (new)
-beanie babies (can be gently used)
-soap/ anti bacterial
